SARANK - CITY OF SPORT

Traditional sport in Saransk is race walking. Recently the football club "Mordovia" has demonstrated success in the football matches. The football club "Mordovia" has won FNL in  the spring of 2012 and for the first time in its history came to the elite division of Russian football (the Premier League). Active development of sports education and infrastructure have allowed the city to host the International Forum "Russia - Country of Sports" from 8 to 10 September 2011. It was held the World Cup held in race walking 12-13 May 2012
Saransk was chosen for FIFA World Cup 2018.
It has been begun the construction activities of new stadium for 45 000 seats especially for the FIFA World Cup 2018.  After the FIFA World Cup part of the stands, which consist of of prefabricated structures, will be dismantled . After this constant capacity will be 25 000 seats . According to preliminary plans, the shape and color of the new arena will resemble the red sun depicted on the flag of Mordovia. 
In 2010, the area near Volgograd street and the  river "Insar" was cleaned to a construction. It was  planned to finish the building of the stadium to 2012. Subsequently stadium opening was postponed for 2014-2015 . Besides the main arena is projected creation of the sports complex, which includes sport halls for basketball and volleyball, allowing to hold  world-class competitions (information from wikipedia).

There are other sporting venue in Saransk. For example, the ice stadium in the center and ice arena in Proletarsky city borough. The future sports player are trained hockey and figure-skating. You can skate at any season of year.

The Olympic Training Center of the Republic of Mordovia for Race Walking. The Center is named of the main trainer  Victor Chegin. Olympic Training Center has prepared for many talented athletes: Olympic champions Sergey Kirdyapkin Valery Borchin and Olga Kaniskina , two-time Olympic medalist Denis Nizhegorodov.
